01 — Welcome

Searching for the right therapist can be overwhelming, scary, or both. I'm glad you're here, and I'd be glad to help you in starting this process.

I was born, raised, and educated as a psychotherapist in Miami. I am proud to be working in my community as a mental health provider with a focus on adolescents, young adults, eating disorders, and those struggling with negative body image.

If it turns out that you are better helped in some other way, or by someone else, I may be able to connect you with someone in the South Florida area who is the right fit.

I offer no-charge 15 minute consultations to see if I'm the right person to help you and answer any questions about the therapeutic process. Book yours today.

How we can work together

Lisa Jimenez, LMHC

Eating disorders

  • Anorexia Nervosa
  • Bulimia Nervosa
  • Binge Eating Disorder (BED)
  • OSFED
  • Disordered eating
  • Body image

Lisa has worked with patients through the various levels of care — from a residential facility for eating disorders to individuals at an outpatient level hoping to repair their relationships with their bodies. She also offers Family Based Treatment (FBT), where parents of adolescents are given tools and guidance as the family battles an eating disorder, as an alternative to higher levels of care.

If food, exercise, and body image are running your life, Lisa can provide hope. Often, how you relate to your body and food speaks to your relationship with yourself, unresolved pain, and feelings of self-worth.

All people are deserving of a peaceful relationship with their bodies. Lisa can help you find what that looks like for you.

Individual psychotherapy

In individual therapy, Lisa works with clients to gain a better level of understanding into their everyday thinking patterns and behaviors, tailoring treatment to individual needs.

For many, this looks like exploring how they imagine a future of fulfillment and peace — identifying specific goals and values, as well as the barriers to taking the steps towards them. For others, therapy may include practicing communication skills, integrating creativity into one's life, or exploring self-identity.

Whatever it may be for you, Lisa offers a safe space to really dig in and make lasting change.

Family therapy

While family sessions are often anxiety provoking, some of the most impactful work comes as a result of family therapy. Lisa helps family members identify their needs within the family structure and communicate them to their loved ones — taking an honest look at the roles they serve, and getting feedback or commitment to make necessary changes.

"I'm grateful that through my work I get to be a part of my client's journey to get to know themselves better."

Out of network

Like most specialty providers, Lisa does not participate in any insurance plans. Paying out-of-pocket is a great option for people who want maximum privacy, confidentiality, and flexibility.

Sliding scale

A limited number of sliding scale spots are reserved. If you don't think you can afford the full fee, please don't hesitate to get in touch.

Where sessions happen. Virtual and in-person sessions in Florida, plus virtual sessions for New York clients. All virtual sessions are held through a safe, HIPAA-compliant platform.

Out-of-network benefits. Lisa has partnered with Mentaya, a platform that files claims and handles the insurance paperwork so you get reimbursed — at no cost to you. Mentaya is completely optional, and as your therapist Lisa does not benefit in any way from your participation.

Superbills. If you prefer to submit on your own, a superbill is sent on the 1st of each month to upload to your insurer.

Not the right fit? If a sliding scale spot isn't available, Lisa is happy to offer referrals to trusted clinicians in the area. Psychology Today is a good resource for finding an in-network provider.

Can I use out-of-network benefits?

In some cases you may be eligible. You'll be responsible for paying for each session in full at the time of appointment, and Mentaya can then file the claim for you.

How much will I pay using them?

If you have out-of-network benefits, they typically reimburse 60–80% of the cost of each session. Lisa is happy to check your benefits for an individualized estimate.

What should I ask my insurer?

  • Do I have out-of-network outpatient mental health coverage? Can I use it for telehealth?
  • What is my out-of-network deductible, and how much has been met this year?
  • Do I need a referral from an in-network provider?
  • What percentage of outpatient psychotherapy is covered per session?
  • How much is reimbursed for a 45 or 60 minute session (CPT 90834 / 90837)?
  • How do I submit claim forms, and how long does reimbursement take?

Do you offer a sliding scale?

Yes — a limited number of sliding scale spots are reserved in the schedule. If you don't think you can afford the full fee, please reach out and ask.

Good Faith Estimate — your right under the No Surprises Act

Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don't have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services.

You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services, in writing, at least 1 business day before your service. You can also ask for one before you schedule. If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. Save a copy or picture of your estimate.
